Andrew Alexander was very instrumental in Solo Crusaders blanking hosts D'Abadie Youths 3-0, to keep its hopes of a second place finish alive in the T&T Table-Tennis Association Premier Division League on Tuesday night.
Playing in the penultimate league fixture, Crusaders' Anthony "Sandfly" Brown overcame Everton Sorzano 11-6, 11-13, 11-7, 11-8 in the opening match at the Arouca Community Centre, Arouca.
Alexander then battled past Haadiy Brooker 11-9, 8-11, 11-6, 11-5 for a 2-0 lead and then paired with Terry Corbin to defeat Sorzano and Edwin Humphreys, in another four-setter 12-10, 11-5, 4-11, 11-4 to seal the 3-0 triumph.
With the win, Crusaders improved to 33 points from 13 matches, one behind current second placed Arima Hawks which has completed its 14-match schedule.
In the final league fixture, Crusaders will face sixth placed Gladiators, knowing that a win is its only option for second spot as it trails in matches won to matches loss. WASA has already clinched the title with a 13-1 record for 39 points.
