With three rounds of matches left to play, including today, reigning champions of the BGTT/First Citizens Secondary Schools Football Premier Division League, Naparima College can retain its title today depending on how results go.
Naparima currently sits at the top with 26 points from 11 matches, four clear of Shiva Boys, while the quartet of San Juan North, Presentation College of San Fernando, St Benedict's College and St Anthony's College all have 21 points.
They are followed by St Mary's College (19), Queen's Royal College (18) and St Augustine (17).
However, while San Juan North and St Mary's has two matches left, and must win both to stay in the hunt for a top four finish at least to qualify for the Premier Division "Big-Four," all the other contenders have three matches left.
Today though, the Angus Eve-coached Naparima will be confident of closing in on a second straight crown as they travel to struggling Carapichaima East, which are deep in the relegation battle with eight points, one above the drop zone and two matches remaining.
Both teams will enter the match after drawing blanks in their previous outings after Naparima was held goalless by Fyzabad and Carapichaima played to a similar outcome with Fatima College.
Down South at the David Williams Recreation Ground in Penal, Shiva, which battled to 1-1 draw at St Anthony's on Saturday, entertains St Benedict's, which also drew 0-0 with Presentation.
Presentation will hope for better fortunes at home to Trinity College of Moka while in other key matches, San Juan North is at QRC; St Anthony's takes its eight-match unbeaten streak to Speyside and St Augustine welcomes Fatima.
In the other match, cellar-placed Trinity College East, which defeated Speyside 4-1 for its first points of the season on the weekend, heads to Fyzabad.
