Couva neighbours, Bankers Insurance Central FC and DirecTV W Connection will contest the First Citizens Cup final at the Ato Boldon, Couva on Friday.
This after two-time defending champions crushed debutants Club Sando 4-0 and six-time winners, W Connection, trounced Morvant Caledonia United in their respective semifinals at the same venue last Friday.
W Connection and Morvant Caledonia were meeting in the semifinal three days after a 1-1 Pro League draw at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo, but at the end of the night, there was no doubt, which was the better team this time around.
Out-of-favour national midfielders, Shahdon Winchester and Jomal Williams, scored a goal each in a space of two minutes to take a 2-0 cushion at the break before an added-on-time stunner from Andre Toussaint sealed the 3-0 W Connection win.
Winchester put the "Savonetta Boys" ahead 1-0 in the 27th minute when he headed past goalkeeper Marvin Phillip off a right side corner from teenager Aikim Andrews.Seconds later, Phillip came to his team's rescue with a point blank save from Neil Benjamin Jr, but the latter then turned provider with a low ball across the six-yard area, for Jomal Williams to convert from close range for a 2-0 advantage.
The score could have been worse at the half, but Phillip followed up with decent saves to deny W Connection captan Alvin Jones and Benjamin from adding to their team's tally.
Morvant Caledonia United's chances were rare, and the best came in the second minute of stoppage-time from a Kareem Joseph free-kick which forced goalkeeper Julani Archibald into a great save to put the ball behind for a corner.
However, with the seconds ticking away, Toussaint added a third when he finished off a counter-attack by unleashing a low left-footed strike into the bottom corner of Phillip's goal for a 3-0 score after breezing past a last-ditch-effort from Kyle Bartholomew.
...Plaza keeps upform with double
The second-semifinal also proved to produced a one-sided scoreline as inform Willis Plaza scored on either side of the break, taking his First Citizens Cup (FCC) 2015 tally to five goals, while Jason Marcano and veteran striker Kerry Baptiste, also netted.
Central started brightly, and should have taken the lead in the 15th minute, when Plaza played in Sean De Silva, but the latter took a touch too much which allowed goalkeeper Kelvin Henry to avert danger. At the other end of the field, Central goalkeeper Jan-Michael Williams was forced into a save to deny a goalward effort from Akeem Humphrey.
However, Plaza, who nicknamed himself the "Great White" eventually put Central ahead in the 22nd minute when he rifled a left-footed strike past a fully sprawled Henry and eight minutes later Marcano doubled the advantage by hooking a left-footed strike past Henry to cap off a solo run.
Plaza and his team-mates started the second-half the same was as the first and after two wasted chances he extended the lead to 3-0 in the 64th from above the six yard area following quick exchanges between Marvin Oliver and Marcano from a corner, for his eight goal in six matches.
The zippy Plaza was then denied his hat-trick in the 71st before being replaced by Baptitse and with the result beyond doubt Club Sando pushed forward for a consolation, only to see Williams deny Anthony Parris in the 78th minute with another timely save.
Baptiste, the Pro League's second all-time leading scorer behind Devorn Jorsling, would add a fourth for Central FC in the fourth minute of added-on time, lobbing Henry following a pass from Marcano.
With a spot in the $110,000 final secured, Central FC will turn its attention back to the defence of its league crown when it faces Club Sando again on Tuesday at the Mahaica Oval, Pt Fortin from 6 pm.Two hours earlier, W Connection comes up against home side Pt Fortin Civic.
