Digicel T&T Pro League duo, Japs North East Stars and Morvant Caledonia AIA will be hoping to avoid being early casualties when the Toyota Classic kicks off today with three round-of-16 matches.
At the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya, Stars' winners in 2012 and runners-up in 2010 will tackle Super League outfit Siparia Spurs in the feature match from 8 pm in Group B.
Two hours earlier at the same venue, Super League pair, Defence Force and FC Santa Rosa lock horns in Group D.
Down at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva, Morvant Caledonia United, which has never reached the final faces a tricky tie in Super League's 1976 Tobago Phoenix from 6 pm.
Last season the Keith Jeffrey-led Play Whe San Jabloteh defeated Pt Fortin Civic 4-2 on penalties following a 1-1 draw in the final for the club's first title in six years.
This season, the Toyota Classic will feature an increased champions' prize of $75,000 while the runners-up will receive $20,000.
