The 2015 installment of the Scotiabank Kiddy Cricket programme came to an end on November 27, with the awards ceremony for the academic/developmental aspect of the programme, at the Sir Frank Worrell Development Centre, Balmain, Couva.
This year, the academic element of the programme took place in 40 primary schools throughout T&T.
This year marks the 15th anniversary of the Scotiabank Kiddy Cricket programme and the bank remains proud to be the exclusive sponsor of Scotiabank Kiddy Cricket and the official bank of West Indies cricket. The programme has been teaching children the rudiments of cricket, including batting, bowling, fielding and catching and also provides equipment and training for teachers to coach the basics of the game.
The Scotiabank Kiddy Cricket programme encourages and promotes the development of well-rounded Caribbean youths, providing cricket resources and facilitating learning through the provision of academic aids.
Locally, the Scotiabank Kiddy Cricket programme was introduced in 2000, with the academic component coming on board in 2003. The 2015 academic component of the programme involved teachers delivering classroom sessions in accordance with the curriculum in Mathematics, Social Studies, Language Arts and IT.
Students were awarded in the areas of art, craft, creative writing, poetry and song. They were also praised for the creativity shown in maintaining their Kiddy Cricket journals/copy books during the programme.
San Francique Presbyterian primary school emerged as the 2015 most outstanding school and also earned awards for most outstanding teacher, 1st Place in the Journal/Copy Book, Song, Poem, Art and Craft categories. Montrose Vedic Primary, was the runner up school.
