Yet another Labour Day celebration has gone by and the OWTU continues to ignore the role of its founding president general, Adrian Cola Rienzi, in its formal proceedings to mark the occasion.

Bajans dent T&T’s pride
Another middle order batting collapse by T&T initiated by West Indies spinner Jomel Warrican and medium pacer Kevin Stoute led Barbados to an easy seven- wicket win in the penultimate round of the Regional Four-Day tournament at the National Cricket Centre in Couva, yesterday.
Like the first innings, the T&T middle order failed to capitalize on a strong start. Resuming on 117/1 trailing Barbados by 53 runs, T&T was dismissed for 240 in the second innings giving the Bajans the simple task of getting 71 for victory.
Kyle Hope, batting against his countrymen, was the only Red Force batsman to score a half century top scoring with 76. Warrican finished with 5/54 in 27.1 overs while Stoute grabbed 4/50 in 19 overs to keep Barbados in contention for the title.
Barbados and Guyana can still win the title in the final round starting on Friday. Up to press time yesterday Guyana was struggling to hang on for a draw against the Leeward Islands. T&T dropped from third to fourth place in the six-team standings after the defeat.
Opening batsman Hope, who top scored with 77 in the first innings, could not complete his hundred again as he was dismissed for 76 after starting the last day’s play on 67 not out, yesterday.
Nightwatchman Marlon Richards and Yannic Cariah then decided to take the attack to the Bajans sharing in a quick 35-run partnership. Cariah, who normally plays with patience took a different approach.
After left-handed Cariah struck three fours T&T progressed quickly to 170/2 to ensure Barbados had to bat again. With no addition to the total, Cariah’s cameo came to an end when he got an edge off Stoute to Kraigg Brathwaite at slip, as he was dismissed for 19 off 26 deliveries.
Richards, who has contributed many runs at the end of the innings this season, continued to look for runs after being joined by Narsingh Deonarine. However, when Richards was dismissed for 39 off 63 balls wickets started to fall regularly.
Deonarine and Yannick Ottley did not last long falling for eight and seven respectively as T&T was reduced to 220/6 at lunch.
After Deonarine was bowled by Stoute, Ottley edged one to second slip off the same bowler with a delivery that surprised him with some extra bounce. Medium pacer Stoute snatched three wickets in the morning session as T&T went to lunch with captain Jason Mohammed on 13 and an injured Jeremy Solozano not off the mark.
Barbados struck immediately after lunch when Mohammed attempting a sweep found the top edge and was caught for 13 by Shai Hope at first slip running to his left off Warrican’s bowling. Stoute and Warrican made scoring difficult for T&T while bowling in tandem.
Solozano, who injured his left hand while fielding in the first innings, was next to go edging to first slip trying to cut to give Stoute another wicket. T&T was now reduced to 233/8.
The innings folded quickly after that as wicketkeeper Steven Katwaroo and Jon-Russ Jagessar both fell to left-arm spinner Warrican. Katwaroo was given out leg before for seven, then Warrican disturbed the furniture of Jagessar for duck as T&T was dismissed for 240.
After progressing to 37/1 at tea, Barbados lost two quick wickets at the end of the chase but got to 71/3 to wrap up an easy victory. T&T will face the Windward Islands in the final round starting on Friday at the National Cricket Centre.
