Top T&T swimmer and Olympic bronze medallist George Bovell III swam to a bronze medal in the men's 50m breaststroke at the 12th Eindhoven Swim Cup, which is also used as the Dutch Olympic Trials, yesterday.
Swimming from lane three in the eight-man final, the 32-year-old Bovell III got home in 28.29 seconds to trail winner Hendrik Feldwehr who won in 28.10 and Timon Evenhuis, the runner-up in 28.20 at the Pieter Van Den Hoogenband Swimming Stadium.
The other finishers in the final were Amo Kamminga (28.51), Ties Elzerman (28.56), Kasper Leeuw (28.75), Kingue Struijf (28.76) and Jordan Kraaijenhof (28.99).
Earlier in the morning heats, Bovell, who was fourth in the men's 50m freestyle final in 22.49 on Wednesday, was the third fastest swimmer going into the final when he won the sixth of eight heats in 28.47 seconds, ahead of Elzerman (28.57) and Struijf (28.91),
Also in the heat were Max Pilger (29.48), Jesse de Vries (29.79), Jeroen Baars (29.93), Mark Baars (30.03), Coen de Bruijn (30.06), Erik Simon (30.15) and Thomas Verhoeven (30.58).
Evenhuis was the top swimmer in heat in 27.92 and had the best time overall while the others to qualify from his heat was Leeuw (28.59) while Feldwehr won heat seven and was second best overall in 28.26 ahead of Kamminga (28.72) and Kraaijenhof (28.81).
Last month at the Sixth Trofeo Citta di Milan Swimming Championship, Bovell was fourth in the 50m breaststroke in 28.50 while he took bronze in the men's 50m freestyle in 22.74 seconds.
