T&T's goal shoot, Samantha Wallace of Hertfordshire Mavericks, is in a two-player battle for the 2016 Sky Sports Vitality Netball Super League Player of the Season in England.
The 22-year-old first year Mavericks standout, was selected along with Loughborough Lightning's and England captain Ama Agbeze, Manchester Thunder and England vice-captain Sara Bayman, Surrey Storm's Sophie Candappa and Team Bath's South African star Karla Mostert.
And up to mid-day yesterday, Toco-born Wallace, who is also a national basketballer had 34 per cent while Bayman was on 35 per cent from close to 15,500 votes ahead of today's 7 am (UK Time) deadline.Agbeze was next with 15 followed by Mostert with nine, and Candappa with seven.
According to the league website, the short-listing of the five nominees for the Player of the Season was done after plenty of deliberation, before the contenders were whittled down to a short-list of five.
Prior to the start of voting in England last month, Sky Sports commentator and netball expert Ania Navin also provided a brief summary of the top players and noted that Wallace has incredible accuracy and composure on court and provides a great target on her strong hold in the circle.
Wallace is also in the running to be voted as the Hertfordshire Mavericks 'Fans Player of the season'.
So far the T&T, 6ft 4 inches standout led her team to an impressive 10-4 record regular season record before they suffered a nail-biting 53-51 semifinal loss to defending champions Surrey Storm in the semifinal on Saturday last and will meet Team Bath in Saturday's bronze medal match in London,
Overall, Wallace, the only shooter named among the "Top Five" ended the regular season as the second highest scorer in the eight-team league, but with the best shooting percentage among the top ten at 89 per cent.
A member of University of T&T champion netball team as well in her home country, Wallace playing in her first season in England did most of her team's scoring with 438 goals from 491 attempts on the season, second behind Storm's England international Rachel Dunn's 474 goals from 560 attempts, while Loughborough Lightning's Ugandan shooter Peace Proscovia ended third with (419/494).
