East Zone crushed North-East by 94 runs when the T&T Cricket Board Under-13 Inter-Zone tournament bowled off on Friday last.
Playing at Honeymoon Park in El Dorado, East piled on 229 for four wickets in 35.2 overs of the allotted 45 overs, with Sion Hackett leading the way with 70, while North-East Zone's Anderson Mahase grabbed two wickets for four runs in nine overs.
In their turn at the crease North-East were rattled out for a paltry 135 in 35.2 overs as the East bowlers went to work in clinical fashion with Giovanni Gadjahar (7.2-2-19-3), Yasir Deen (3-0-12-2), and Rondell Ramlogan (2-2-9-2) bowling their team to victory.
Only East Zone's Mahase showed his all-round talent by sharing the batting honours with Giovanni Ramdanie, both scoring 27 in the losing effort.
At Caroni Conquerors Ground in Caroni, Central Zone completed an easy nine-wicket victory over hapless South-West in spectacular fashion, routing their opponents for just 49 in only 15.2 overs. They later raced to the victory target for the loss of one wicket in 23 balls.
Taking first strike, South-West was undone by the left-arm seam bowling of Roneilester Perriera who had amazing figures of four wickets for nine runs in five overs, inclusive of one maiden. Also impressive was Daniel Fletcher who grabbed an equally impressive three for five in 14 balls, as only Prince Pascal offered any resistance with a fighting innings of 22.
Chasing 50 for victory, Joseph Rasheed (22 not out) and Kyle Kissoondath (13) made light work of the assignment as Central had a breezy day at the office, losing just one wicket.
And at Fatima Ground in Mucurapo, host North Zone recorded an exciting one-wicket victory against Tobago, in a match reduced to 35 overs because of a late start caused by a damp pitch. North successfully chased down 152 to win in 29 overs.
North Captain Aidan Samaroo led all scorers with a joint match-high 34 runs and was supported by Zachary Siewah (25) and Matthew Gittens (11) as the Tobago bowlers made serious inroads into their batting to give the visitors a sniff of an upset.
Orlando James (8-0-40-4), Teshawn Quashie (7-0-44-2), Kylon Braithwaite (3-0-3-1) and Mikel James (7-0-20-1) all bowled their hearts out but the plucky homesters held on for a well-deserved and memorable win.
Batting first, Tobago got to 151 all out in 25 overs thanks to James, who got to 34, while Sbyke Denoon made 18 and Daryl Horsford scored 13. Bowling for North Zone, Samaroo snared three for 12 in four overs, and Sachin Emrit took two for 15 in four. Suraj Rampersad, Jony Ramdeen and Matthew Gittens all took one apiece also.
At PowerGen Ground in Penal, South Zone humbled South-East by 34 runs after taking first strike and posting 166 for six wickets (45 overs) and then tumbling out their opponents for 132 in 38.3 overs.
For South, Rodney Beharry led the batting with 45 runs, with valuable contributions also coming from Kyle Roopchand (33), Darren Samlal (20) and Avalon Changoor (17). For South-East, Aaron Gopechansingh took two for 30 and Mickel Jalim had one for 12.
But a fine half-century by Khaleem Mohammed, who ended with 53, could not prevent his team from sliding to defeat, only getting limited support from Ricardo Williams (12) as South Zone's Jonathan Fredericks claimed five for 34 in 8.3 overs, and Changoor returned with figures of four for 21 in five overs.
