Skillfully led by captain Sheldon Ramdhan, Stag Guns outplayed all comers to capture the coveted championship trophy and a cash prize when the bpTT Mayaro Resource Centre (MRC) staged its first annual Grand All-Fours Competition on Sunday.
Stag Guns, who hail from Rio Claro, easily won all stages of the ten-hour marathon competition, turning back a game Panchoo & Friends outfit in the grand final for the top two positions. Panchoo & Friends, of Pierreville, Mayaro, also took home and a trophy and cash prize for their runners-up efforts.
Some 20 teams took part in the competition which was played on a knock-out basis with cash prizes, as well as trophies and hampers, on offer. The MRC main hall was transformed into a den of all-fours rivalry, laced with stinging picong from the victorious teams.
Teams from Mayaro which competed in the tournament included Come For Licks Nah, Caution Crew, Kelvin and Judy Transport Ltd-Kernahan, Lambkin and Sons, MMSU, One Mayaro, G.Team and A-Team.
Kerneisha Prince-King, Manager of the bpTT Mayaro Resource Centre (MRC), organisers of the competition, said the aims and objectives of the initiative focused on fostering enduring relationships with all stakeholders of the MRC, to provide a premier all-fours competition which engendered camaraderie and friendly rivalry, and to uplift the community of Mayaro.
"We are extremely pleased with this first venture. I think we have realised all our objectives. We had an extremely high turn-out of teams, some coming from outside of Mayaro. We intend to use any funds generated from this competition to mount other community-related activities for the future," said a beaming Prince-King, who thanked her staff for their yeoman efforts in making the event a huge success.
King was also high in praise of the organisational skills and technical knowledge of Deoraj Loutan, the main architect of the all-fours competition. Loutan formulated the rules and conditions of play and kept a watchful eye on proceedings, settling disputes whenever they arose.
When the war cries had ended, captain of Stag Guns, Ramdhan, and his band of happy warriors, Pravin Roopnarine, Dave Ramsingh and Rennie Joseph, received their winning cheque and championship trophy from Coline Lewis, Assistant manager, MRC.
Placing third were Shotaz, while Destroyers took fourth position.
