Point guard Megan Rampersad once again was the lone force for T&T recording a double-double against Barbados in the fifth place playoffs but it could not help the local team from suffering a 68-40 defeat to place sixth in the Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) Girls Under-16 Championship.
This was on Friday afternoon at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Georgetown, Guyana. Rampersad scored 24 of T&T's 40 points while grabbing 13 rebounds. The Bajans used a strong second half to really clamp down on the Trinbagonians after they trailed 21-20 at the end of the first half to pull off the comfortable 28-point win.
Nevertheless, Tower Lorde was once again a beast in the low post for Barbados dropping 26 points, all at point blank range while picking up 16 rebounds.Rampersad matched her 24 points against The Bahamas in the preliminary round when T&T fell to a huge 89-36 loss on Thursday evening.
On Wednesday, the local basketballers were beaten 59-26 by Suriname in their opening match of the seven-team competition.
In the semifinals, the Bahamanians cruised past Antigua and Barbuda to book spot in final and will meet Suriname, who topped British Virgin Islands (BVI).Bahamas much like their male counterparts are having a flawless run in the CBC tournament claiming a 55-26 victory.
The Surinamese were well tested by BVI but emerged with an eight-point (49-41) victory. The title-match was scheduled to be played last night following the bronze medal match Antigua and Barbuda and BVI.
