T&T athletes begin competition today as the country's female rower Felice Aisha Chow participates in the Women's Single Sculls Heats at 9.30 AM.
Chow qualified for the Rio Olympics while competing at the World Rowing Federation (FISA) Americas Olympic Continental Qualification Regatta in Valparaiso, Chile in March.
It was in the semi-finals of the 2,000 metre Women's 1x in March that Chow achieved a personal best of seven minutes, 49.966 seconds, finishing third behind the winner, Kenia Lechuga Alenis of Mexico and 2nd-placed Antonia Abraham of the host nation. Alenis' winning time was 7:46.094.
The 38-year-old rower, grew up in Trinidad but migrated to the US to begin studies towards a dual bachelor's degree in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and Microbiology & Immunology, in 1995.
She was on a full academic scholarship at the University of Miami
During her four years in Miami, while maintaining a constant presence on the scholastic honour roll, Chow contributed to some of the University's best placements, including gold medals at the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championship Regatta.
Chow is a research scientist.
