T&T Pro League club, DirecTV W Connection will be going all out to pick up its first win in this year's Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League Group A series when it host Honduran champions Honduras Progreso at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva from 8 pm today.
It will be the second match of the three-team home-and-away round-robin series for both clubs, who were both defeated Pumas UNAM, which leads with six points.
Last week, Pumas blanked Honduras Progreso 2-0 after it won at Couva 4-2 on August 3 and speaking yesterday on his team's final home match of the 2016/2017 group stages, W Connecion technical director and coach, St Lucian-born Stuart Charles-Fevrier said his team is in a must-win situation.
"It's going to be a very important match for us based on what has transpired so far in the group, if we want to have any chance real chance of advancing.
"The guys know the task that lies ahead of us and for us we have no choice but to come out and play for all three points from the first whistle.
Asked how his team has been affected with the Pro League still in its off season, while the other clubs have began their domestic seasons, Charles-Fevrier said its something they have had to deal with in the past as well.
He added, "Coming into the tournament we always knew that the other clubs would be at a more advance stage than us in terms of match fitness for certain due to their seasons already in progress, so we have resorted to getting as much quality warm-up matches we can get and hope that it has prepared us enough for the tournament."
With regards to his team's opponents, Charles-Fevrier said he knows that it's their first time in the tournament and for a team to reach the Concacaf level they must have some pedigree.
"They have played about five to six matches in their domestic competition and I had a chance to see them against Pumas, and I must say they are a good team, and we will need to be on top of our game.
While W Connection, which qualified to the tournament as Caribbean Footbal Union Club Championship runner-up to Couva rivals, Central FC has not been in much competitive action, they will take some comfort in that the visitors have struggled for much form so far this season, with one win in their last four matches, a 4-1 defeat of Real Sociedad back on August 10.
Since then, the Hondurans were beaten 4-1 by Platense and drew 1-1 with Juticalpa along with the loss to Pumas.
Following tonight's match,W Connection next travels to Honduras Progreso on September 29, and Pumas on October 20 to end round-robin group play, after which only the winner will advance the quarterfinals, with the seven other group winners.
