Due to bad weather yesterday, T&T match against Argentina was postponed along with the other two matches that were scheduled to play in the Americas Federation of Netball Associations (AFNA) qualifiers at the LB Scott Sports Auditorium in St Maarten.
Early yesterday, it was reported that the government of St Maarten issued a bulletin advising that all government buildings be closed for the remainder of the day due to inclement weather. The other matches postponed were St Marten versus Grenada and Barbados against St Kitts and Nevis.
Manager Vanessa Forde confirmed that the matches were postponed until further notice. The country was under a tropical storm watch.
"We are waiting word from the local organising committee. The matches may be played later in the day," said Forde around midday yesterday.
T&T, the highest ranked team in this tournament at number nine, is scheduled to play the host today in the feature match.
In this country's opening match on Monday, captain Kalifa McCollin helped the "Calypso Girls" seal an easy victory, beating Canada, 69-9. McCollin, the goal-attack, had shot with 80 percent accuracy, producing 33 goals from 41 attempts.
Coach Rhonda John-Davis and her assistant Kemba Duncan made full use of the opportunity utilising all four of T&T shooters with Jameela McCarthy connecting 14 off 17, Tiana Dillon scoring 12 in 18 and Tahira Hollingsworth netting 10 from 12.
The St Maarten team comes into today's affair with mixed results, winning its opener against the Argentinians, 40-17 on Monday but suffered a 45-25 loss to St Kitts and Nevis, the following day. A brief shower of rain during that match on Tuesday caused play to stop as water blew through the windows and doors at the eastern end of the auditorium. The referees were forced to stop the match because the wet floor became too dangerous for the players to be on the court.
The T&T team is aiming to take the AFNA title and qualify for next year's World Youth Netball Cup in Gaborone, Botswana. The top three finishers in the qualifiers will advance to the Cup.
