It seems the tide is turning in local cricket, it may be too early to call but events of the past week have definitely made members of the fraternity start to pay attention.
On Tuesday night, there were the four major elections - the National League Club representatives and three zonal (Central, East and North East) - which saw the Azim Bassarath-led Movement for Change take a hit in each from the Dinanath Ramnarine/Daren Ganga-led opposition.
The top six candidates in each election are counted as the winners as the build-up to the T&T Cricket Board (TTCB) elections which is set for October 29, intensifies.
Continuing in the same frame as the previous two elections, Ramnarine/Ganga's slate has dominated the National League as well.
Anil Kamal, who has quickly become the gift to either side as he entered the elections on both slates, got the most votes, 67, ahead of Kamal Basdeo and Ganga, who received 45 votes each, Ramnarine (43 votes), Samuel Badree (41) and Clint Pamphille (41).The other three representatives are in support of the Ramnarine/Ganga slate that will be going up for TTCB elections against the incumbent administration led by president Bassarath.
The remaining votes went to Movement for Change's Omar Khan (31) and Kalaparsad Sanasie (31), Kishore Ramnarine (30), Anthony Boody (27) and Rajindra Poorai (26).
There were also landslide victories for the opposition in the Central, East and North-East zones elections.
In the Central Zone, the opposition dominated with all six representatives, five of the six received 26 votes - Anderson Ramdath, Hadeed Ali, Navin Chatoor, Raymond Latchman and Ramnarine while their comrade Keith Joseph got 25.
In the North East, Ramnarine/Ganga had four successful candidates, Preston Sam (18), Ravi Motilal (16), Erica Baptioste-Kissoon (17) and Lutchman Lochan (14) in the North East elections compared to Bassarath's two, Arjoon Ramlal (19) and John Lewis (17).
In the East Zone it was also a clean sweep for Ramnarine/Ganga slate with Kelvin Arneaud (18), Kirt Francis (18), Aslim Mandol (18), Sharaz Mohammed (18) and Brenda Solozano (18).
The six South Zone representatives elected on Monday are Chaitram Ramjitsingh (30), Carl Birjah (30), Elvis Ramdeo (31), Stephen Ramkissoon (30), Sunil Singh (25) and Richmond Ramtahal (26).
Last week in the North Zone elections, Winston Sobers (22 votes), Mahabir Ragoonanan (22), Kassandra Constantine (21), Andrew Hirst (20), Stephen Samuel (18) and Anthony Durrant (17) were elected. It is understood that the six are in support of the Ramnarine/Ganga slate.
