T&T's super middle boxer Sheldon Lawrence made it six wins in as many fights Sunday when he defeated Venezuela's Jesus Bermudez in a six-round WBC Youth Pro League contest in Caracas, Venezuela.
Bermudez who came in as a replacement for his compatriot Jose Cervantes only a day ago, received a big uppercut to his rib-cage that sent him to the canvas. The big blow came after the aggressive T&T fighter landed a number of body shots to the body fo the Venezuelan.
With the result, Lawrence is expected to re-enter the ring in the next two weeks under the management of international promoter and match-maker Boxu Potts.
Bermudez weighed in at 162 while Sheldon posted a weight of 169 pounds before the contest.
On Sunday, Potts was outraged at the reluctance of Cervantes to accept the fight, saying it was the second time the Venezuelan had pulled out of a bout with Lawrence.
Potts who said he was willing to fight Cervantes in his backyard, told the media Sunday that the Venezuelan will now have to come in T&T for the fight if he accepts it.
Lawrence had said before the fight that he was ready to face Bermudez and he did not disappoint as he delivered on his promise to take the fight to his opponent from the early rounds.
