There were wins for Aiden Carter, Osenyonye Nwokolo at the Annual Subway Junior Tennis Tournament that served off Friday and continued throughout the weekend at Trinidad Country Club, Maraval.
Carter, the country's top Under-16 player warmed up against Jaydon Alexis in the Boys' Singles, winning 6-2, 6-3 to progress to the other round while Clint Singh got the better of Brandon Bruce 7-5, 6-4.
In a keenly contested boys' under-16 category Jordan Mukerji defeated Vashist Kelly 7-5, 6-0; Liam Shepperd whipped Derrel Olivier 6-0, 6-1 and the entertaining Samuel West making light work out of Joel Alexander 6-0, 6-0.
Among the Girls' however Nwokolo cruised past Kelsey Leitch 6-4, 6-1 and Jade Ramrattan clobbered Shaneil George 6-3, 6-0 for impressive starts.
From the 140 participants on the two days of competition to date, Kimberly Sabga also got off to a winning start, beating Rhyse Houlier in two sets 6-1, 6-3 and Stephanie Sirju taking three sets before she triumphed over Vivan Sabga, getting the edge in a super tie-break to win 6-2, 3-6 and 10-7.
Meanwhile there were also victories for Enoch George 4-1, 4-1 over Elliot Ross-Dick in the Boys u-14; Levi Hinkson 2-4, 4-2, 10-8 over Ebolum Nwokolo; Kato Oura 3-5, 4-0, 13-11 over Ebastian Sylvester; Nathan Valdez 4-0, 4-1 over Mark Lessey and Alex Jaden-Durand who advanced to the next round without taking the court in the boys u-14 division.
Among the girls Aalisha Alexis reign supreme over Lauren Carrington 4-2, 4-1; Keesa Lee Young defeated Jade Law 4-1, 4-0; Aralia Blackman triumphed over Chelseariley Moodoo 1-4, 4-1, 10-5 and Janay Sealy beating Isabella D'Arcy 4-2, 3-5 and 10-4 in the u-14 division.
