Canadians Sam Schachter and Sam Pedlow played a consistent game throughout the men's final of the 11th and final leg of the Norceca Beach Volleyball Circuit T&T Tournament to beat Cubans Nivaldo Diaz and Sergio Gonzalez in straight sets on Sunday.
At the Courland Heritage Park, Turtle Beach, Schachter and Pedlow won 21-18, 21-19 to bring down the curtain on a the season which included stops in Guatemala, Mexico (two), Costa Rica, Cayman Islands, Dominican Republic, Canada, Cuba, Puerto Rico, St Lucia and T&T.
It was the first victory of the year for the Canadian pair frustrating the powerful Cuban duo that was seeking their fourth Norceca crown of the year.
In the semifinal round, Schachter and Pedlow swept USA-A team of William Allen and Theodore Brunner 21-12, 21-12 while Diaz and Gonzalez defeated fellow Cubans Karell Pe�a and Daisel Quesada 21-18, 21-15.
Pe�a and Quesada outplayed Allen and Brunner in three exciting sets 21-18, 16-21, 15-13 to take home the bronze medal.
Earlier in the day, Canadians Melissa Humana-Paredes and Jamie Broder prevailed over Kimberly DiCello and Summer Ross of USA in a mouth-watering match to claim the women's gold medal 17-21, 21-16, 15-12 in 66 minutes.
It was the second victory in a row and third overall for Broder in T&T after she won in 2013 and 2015 playing with Kristina Valjas while Humana-Paredes was also a past winner in Tobago in 2014 alongside Taylor Pichske.
In the semifinals, Humana-Paredes and Broder defeated Cubans Yanisleidis Sanchez and Lidiannis Echeverria 21-19, 21-19. DiCello and Ross edged compatriots Brooke Sweat and Emily Day in three sets 21-15, 21-23, 15-10 in a marathon match that lasted 58 minutes.
Sweat and Day outdueled Sanchez and Echeverria in three sets 21-19, 18-21, 15-13 to claim the bronze medal following a 51 minutes battle.
