Twelve Trinidad and Tobago cricketers have made themselves available for the inaugural “The Hundred” tournament set for England next year.
The draft for the tournament will take place on Sunday with the likes of Dwayne Bravo, Sunil Narine and Kieron Pollard having the highest reserve prices of all the local players involved. They are priced at £100k.
The tournament will see eight teams playing the 100-ball tournament taking place between July 17 and August 16 in 2020. An over will consist of 10 balls as opposed to six. The eight teams will comprise of both men and women sides and are Manchester Originals, Northern Superchargers, Birmingham Phoenix, Trent Rockets, Welsh Fire, London Spirit, Oval Invincibles and Southern Brave.
Hard-hitting batsman Nicholas Pooran has fetched £75k while Evin Lewis has a reserved price of £50k and Lendl Simmons £40k. The rest of the local players in Darren Bravo, Rayad Emrit, Shannon Gabriel, Khary Pierre, Denesh Ramdin and Ravi Rampaul have no reserve prices.
While other West Indian cricketers will be involved in the tournament, Jamaican Chris Gayle has the highest reserve price of £125k. The new competition is being hosted by the England and Wales Cricket Board with the men’s and women’s competitions running concurrently. Teams will play each other once, apart from their paired ‘rivals’, whom they will meet twice home and away.
The paired rivals are Leeds and Manchester, the two London teams, Birmingham and Nottingham and Southampton and Cardiff.
There will be 32 league matches in total, with the top three finishers competing in the Finals Day. The top team automatically reaches the final, with second versus third for the other spot in the final.
Among the international acts set to grace, the tournament includes Australian star Steve Smith, England’s World Cup hero Ben Stokes and fast-bowler Jofra Archer.
