The T&T Cricket Board (TTCB) will today shift focus from the cricket field to the Court house, keeping an 11:00 am appointemnt to see if an application to file an injuction by the National League committee members will find favour with the local law lords.
The matter was supposed to be heard on November 8, but lawyers representing both the TTCB and the Dinanath Ramnarine-led National league decided to ask for the matter to be postponed.
Well the date has reached and today Justice Carol Gobin will hear the application at the San Fernando High Court at 11am.
The National League committee is seeking judicial review and an injunction, to stop the impending elections of the TTCB. The board went ahead with their planned AGM on October 22 but did not keep elections which were due.
Ramnarine and his team are asking for changes in the TTCB constitution and in particular the rule allowing the incumbent Executive 12 outgoing votes in the election which they are challenging legally.
Representing the TTCB is Fayad Hosein SC, while former attorney general Ramesh Lawrence Maharaj represent the National League representatives.
Since 1981 the TTCB has been hosting elections and allowing outgoing members and nominated members to vote at the AGM. The National League reps have campigning on the point that this is undemocratic and needs to be changed to a one club, one vote system since 2014.
Azim Bassarath is currently at the helm of the TTCB and he has been there for the past two terms and seeking a third in charge of the domestic affairs of cricket.
