After the third day of the third edition of the Latin America Amateur Championship (LAAC) yesterday at Club de Golf de Panama in Panama, Talin Rajendranath the only T&T player to make the 36 hole cut, is now in 37th position.
Talin shot a 75 (5 over par) this combined with his first 2 day scores of 74 and 72 his 3 day total of 221, leaves him only one shot behind the two leading Caribbean golfers Devaughn Robinson of the Bahamas and Juan Jose Guerra the Dominican Republic.
While it will be unlikely he can catch the leaders who are on 208 it would be a feather in his cap to finish as the low Caribbean golfer
Alvaro Ortiz of Mexico shot a 67 today to be tied for the lead with Toto Gana of Chile on 208. The pre-tournament favorite Joaquin Niemann also of Chile moved up to third as he also shot a 67. There are 7 golfers who are within 3 shots of the lead so should be an exciting last day of golf.
The championship grants the winner the opportunity to play in the 2017 Masters Tournament In addition, the winner and the runner(s)-up will be exempt into The Open Qualifying Series for The 146th Open at Royal Birkdale and into sectional qualifying for the U.S. Open Championship at Erin Hills next year. Finally, the champion will receive full exemptions into The Amateur Championship in 2017, the 2017 U.S. Amateur Championship and any other USGA amateur championship for which he is eligible.
