Over 30 teams from USA , Canada , Great Britain and the Caribbean will join their local counterparts from Trinidad and Tobago to battle for over $ 0.3Million in cash and other incentives in the World All-Fours Federation (WAFF) and the Trinidad and Tobago All-Fours Federation International Champions Cup carded for weekend after Carnival, Friday 3 to Sun 5, March.
This International All-Fours event is the richest ever three day all fours tournament held around the world and forms part of the World Body's goal of crowning the World Club All-Fours Champions at the end of December 2017 at a ceremony to be held in New York.
Henry Antoine , PRO of the World All-Fours Federation explained that this International Cup in Trinidad represents the first leg of the World Grand Prix All-Fours Circuit which involves International Tournaments in New York, Boston , Montreal , Toronto, Grenada , St Vincent, Tobago and Great Britain which will be held throughout the year with teams participating in all the stages of the circuit with the club gaining the most points being crowned World Club Champions. He said that the World Body will be attempting to spread the game in Europe starting in 2019 and will be hosting in 2018 the World Championships right here in Trinidad and Tobago.
Antoine went on too add that he is surprised to hear from TTAFF that the Ministry of Sport & Youth Affairs is still to commit their support for the International Cup since the present Minister of Sports the Honourable Daryl Smith did attend the Opening Ceremony in 2016 at the St. John's Ambulance Hall in POS where he promised that his Ministry will support the 2017 tournament.
Sherwin Cox Tournament Director for the International Cup 2017 for TTAFF explained that the team winning will receive a whopping $ 100,000 , International Cup and 15 Gold Medals, 2nd prize is $ 40,000, a trophy and 15 silver medals, while 3rd place will pocket $20,000, a trophy and 15 bronze medals.
International Cup will see the participation of at least 80 teams coming from the not only the traditional clubs but those from the private sector including State Enterprise , Ministries and the Regional Corporations who has chosen this weekend after Carnival to cool down with a weekend of All-Fours.
Expected to attend and officially Open the tournament is the Honourable Dr Keith Rowley, Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago and the Honourable Daryl Smith Minister of Sport & Youth Affairs.
This year the event is tentatively carded for the National Tennis Centre , Tacarigua and will see for the first time the Winner of the International Cup being afforded the opportunity to play in the other International Competitions carded for the remaining part of the year in USA , Canada, Caribbean and Britain.
Teams wishing to participate will pay a team registration ree of $ 4,000.00 for 15 players and can only guarantee participation which is limited through any Republic Bank Account ( # 8008000025301) and confirm by emailing their interest to nslgrandslam@hotmail.com before Friday 17, February.
