Basketball will be at the forefront over the weekend at the Maloney Indoor Sport Arena as the University of T&T's (UTT) High Performance basketball team hosts its first ever Invitational Basketball Tournament.
The Red Wolves as the UTT unit is nicknamed will match skills against some tough competitors in Police, Maloney Pacers, Defence Force, Pythons and Ministry of Sport Schoolaz, starting today from 1 pm with the opening ceremony.
Expected to give opening remarks is former national coach and player Joseph "Lenny" Guy, UTT's past High Performance basketball coach.
Today's format is a round robin playoff, featuring the six teams all vying for the title in the inaugural tournament.
Tomorrow, the entertainment will peak with the final and the highly anticipated All-Star celebrity match, which will feature the Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs Darryl Smith, former national cricket captain Daren Ganga, former national football coach and captain Clayton Morris, national women netball players and a number of entertainment personalities.
Following the formalities, there will be a group draw at 1.30 pm. The first match jumps off at 2 pm.
North ZoneBball meeting
The North Zone Basketball Commission is inviting all clubs to a general council meeting on Tuesday at the Woodbrook Youth Facility from 7 pm sharp.
High on the agenda is the planning of the 2017 season, the National Basketball Federation (NBFTT) annual General Meeting (AGM) and other business.
All clubs are asked to make every effort to be represented.
