A simple task of sharing homemade cheese in the early 1940s during the Nazi occupation of Italy was cited as the inspiration for one of the most hotly anticipated two-week events on T&T’s...

Man’ this looks a real special
Manahil is strongly-fancied for a 3-y-o Maiden Fillies’ Stakes over seven furlongs of ‘good’ Newmarket this afternoon, third and final day of the prestigious ‘Craven’ meeting which is staged, primarily, for classic trials.
Whether or not there have been significant pointers we shall see next month when both 1000/2000 Guineas will be featured.
Form is subjective, opinions divided on merits of display, I’ll reveal all thoughts after watching replays, due deliberation, and computing race-times.
Impression counts for plenty but solid time-handicap findings are what my modus operandi is all about.
We’re always on the lookout for good prices as against ‘shorties’ which amount to ‘snakes and ladder’ betting, ‘up and down’ with no chance of getting decent profit.
Yesterday a snap General Election was announced, many will have viewed 8/1 Labour leader, Jeremy Corbyn as worth a punt. There are times when bookmakers are embarrassingly greedy and naive; even odds of 80/1 wouldn’t tempt intelligent souls but, as mentioned, it’s all about opinion.
Perhaps 69-year-old ‘Comrade Corbyn’ will spring a huge surprise to follow ‘Brexit and Donald Trump!
Manahill ‘caught the eye’ over a similar distance on Kempton polytrack last month, this Hamdan Al Maktoum- owned Charles Hills-trained stormed through to be second and achieved a half-decent TH mark.
Considerable improvement is expected, Manahill is ‘best-in’ and definitely worth supporting as Hills’ yard (again under scrutiny of legendary father, Barry!) seems to be in good form.
Calibration represents a ‘stand-out’ for the Maiden stakes over ten furlongs; providing Martyn Meade’s charge gets an extra quarter mile David Probert will steer him into the coveted HQ winners’ enclosure which my own colt, Cragside, occupied 33 years ago.
Unbelievable how time flies, seems like last week.
Running in tandem will be another turf-flat fixture at picturesque where another three year old Maiden Stakes over a mile looks well within scope of progressive David O’Meara-trained Lamloom, third eighteen days ago.
A lucrative each-way treble occupies my thoughts.
