More dismal performances

Saturday, July 1, 2017

I’ve just witnessed another dismal performance by the West Indies on Friday against India.

In addition to odd decisions by the selectors, we see the same players being rewarded in spite of poor performances—Evin Lewis, Kieran Powell, Jonathan Carter among the present lot and Andre Fletcher and Johnson Charles previously. Don’t the selectors check stats when selecting the team?

The Darren Bravo incident continues unabated, yet he is probably the best Windies batsman outside of Shivanrine Chanderpaul in the West Indies. Apparently, Chanderpaul is too old or so say the selectors. Those following County cricket in England would, of course, disagree.

Incidentally, when will Nicholas Pooran be given an opportunity? In the words of Ian Bishop, a former West Indies fastbowler, whose opinion should count, Pooran is an awesome talent.

It is a sad state of affairs in the West Indies. Yet some diehard fans continue to turn up to support our players only to return home bitterly disappointed again and again. It must be horribly frustrating for them.

The obvious solution? The removal of this current group of selectors or even more importantly, a dissolution of Crlcket West Indies the newly formed body. For this to happen the Media must be awakened from its current slumber.
