Harper guides St James Division to kayo crown
Marvin Harper netted the lone goal as St James Division edged City Hall 1-0 to take home the $1,000 knockout title when the 2017 Port-of-Spain Corporation Inter-Department Football Tournament concluded at the Nelson Mandela Park (Formerly King George V Park) on Saturday.
In the semifinals, Akhel Fairbain, Kevon Frederick, S. Springer and Kalim Young were all on target for St James Division in a 4-1 defeat of Public Health, with Marvin Joseph, the scorer for the losers while City Hall battled past St James Medical, 1-0 thanks to a Clive Felix strike.
In the quarterfinals,, City Hall hammered Central Market 5-0 led by a N’Kosi Raphael hat-trick while Atiba Daniel and Shevon Williams chipped in with one each
St James Medical also advanced with some ease, 3-0 over Central/Eastern with strikes from Tevin Figaro, Stephan Guun and Keron James.
In the two other quarterfinals, St James Division blanked Western Division 2-0 with S. Springer and Akhel Fairbain the players on target while Public Health upstaged Transport & Cleaning 3-2 on sudden-death penalty-kicks after a 1-1 draw.
