Kalifa McCollin

So impressive was Kalifa McCollin in her debut season with the Celtic Dragons in the Vitality Netball Superleague, that the local netballer caught the attention of Hertfordshire Mavericks as she was picked to boost them for the British Fast 5 All-Stars tournament.

The Mavericks team is in the line-up as one of eight Netball Superleague teams who will compete in the inaugural Championship to be played at The O2 in London, tomorrow.

If the name of club sounds familiar its because its the same team that another “Calypso Girl”, Samantha Wallace, made her debut in the Superleague two seasons ago. The national shooter now competes in Australia in the Suncorp Super Netball League with the New South Wales Swifts.

McCollin will team up with Lindsay Keable, Razia Quashie, Zara Everitt, Rose Morgan-Smith, Michelle Drayne, Camilla Buchanan, Sophie Drakeford-Lewis and All Stars Loreen Ngwira and Sharo Kaiche, both of Malawi and they will be square off against the Loughborough Lightning, Surrey Storm, Severn Stars, Manchester Thunder Team Bath, Team Northumbria and Wasps.

Mavericks and Storm will play each other in the tournament’s opening fixture, in a competition which has exciting new innovations such as a double-point Power Play, five-point line and 12-minute matches, will be introduced in the fast-paced format.

Across a five-hour session the eight five-player sides will play in a double elimination format; two wins and the team will advance straight through to the semi finals, two losses will result in being knocked out of the tournament with teams winning one and losing one of their opening matches playing a deciding match for a place in the last four.

The eventual winners will take home £25,000.
