A ‘Thought’ to lift our spirit

Saturday, October 21, 2017

Yaafour attempts to recoup recent losses, and defy a penalty, in the thirteen-runner Novice Stakes over an extended mile of Wolverhampton tapeta tonight, which could represent a tough task for Richard Hannon’s multi-raced charge.

There are two significant boxes ticked, top-rated on my time-handicap* and Yaafour, mount of stable jockey, Tom Marquand, is trained by bang-in-form Richard Hannon; how many times have we mentioned just how prolific the Marlborough-based ‘winning machine’ is during every Autumn period?

It’s no fluke, moreso a product of routine; the racing family Hannon buys a specific type of thoroughbred, hundreds of them and, obviously, knows the modus operandi backwards. I’ve actually purchased horses from Hannon senior and they did very well, good, solid types.

Middleton Sam won twice and was second at group two level for yours truly, in Australia!

Dunstall Park is all about speed, positioning and jockeyship; Yaafour is advantaged on all counts but similarly rated to first-up, Richard Fahey-trained winner, Ocean Voyage, short-head winner on ‘soft’ Carllisle last month.

It is by no means a match, once-raced Wajaaha is expected to go close by Saeed bin Suroor and similarly-profiled, Craving, trained by Simon Crisford, is sure to be ‘on the premises’ but Yaafour justifies each-way support with three places on offer.

Earlier Biddy Brady should finally gain reward for consistency in a Novice Median Auction Stakes over six furlongs of ‘good’ ground Catterick under 2016 ‘computer champ’ David Allan; clear ‘best-in’ and drawn one, perfect. No excuses this time.

Joe Fanning, has an excellent record at this popular North Yorkshire left-hander and trainer supreme, William Haggas, has booked the indefatigable veteran for consistent, hitherto luckless, Perfect Thought, in the following Fillies’ Novice Stakes over seven furlongs; look no further for the winner, thrown-in!
