Premier Division campaigners Trinity College East were severe on East rivals Holy Cross College yesterday in their first match of the Coca Cola National InterCol play-off at the Larry Gomes Stadium in Malabar, Arima, firing six goals past them in a 6-0 victory to advance to the next round of matches.

After a poor campaign in which they finished eighth on the 15-team standings in the League, the boys from Henry Street Arouca were in a no-nonsense mood with the talented Nickel Orr spearheading the attack with a hat-trick and an equally talented Kerdell Sween notching a double. In front its home team at the Malabar venue Orr got the opening goal after just six minutes, before adding another in the 41st.

In another game at the same venue, newly promoted Valencia High also marched on to the next round in the intercol by virtue of clobbering Five Rivers Secondary 3-1. After ensuring a berth in next year’s premier division for the first time, Valencia made light work of a team that they defeated twice already for the season, by forging in front in the 32nd minute from Jeremy Adolphus’ goal.

But the Arouca boys found the equalizer when Jamal Thompson shot past the Valencia goalkeeper in the 50th minute, only to discover afterwards that his effort was all in vain. Kerdell De Verteuil gave Valencia the advantage for a second time in the 67th before Daniel La Croix drilled the final nail in their coffin with a 70th minute item.
