WI not on Ramdin’s mind
T&T Red Force skipper Denesh Ramdin has been scoring runs at will in the current Digicel PCL but says playing for the West Indies is not on his mind.
Ramdin has scored two centuries (101 and 116) and a fifty (56 not out) in the three matches to date and has led his franchise admirably, helping them to a win and two draws thus far.
When asked if he is looking to get back into the regional team, the La Romaine resident responded: “That is not on my mind at the moment. I just want to go out there and score as many runs to help this young team do well.”
Ramdin has been overlooked for the past few seasons for Barbadian Shane Dowrich in the Test matches and Shai Hope for the 50-over format.
He had a very good season with the winning Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League and has continued in that way for the T&T Red Force.
He added: “I have a young team in front of me and it feels good to be able to assist them and work with them so as to bring success for the team.”
Ramdin has been taking turns with Amir Jangoo when coming to the wicketkeeping duties and he is happy to share.
“Jangoo is a young guy just into the system and it is good to give him the opportunity. Experiences like this can only help him become better and he has done a fine job so far. As the season continues we will be sharing the duties because it is plenty cricket for one man to wicketkeep,” he said.
Ramdin and his team will continue their quest for honours in the regional four-day from Thursday night at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy when they battle the unbeaten Guyana Jaguars, the PCL defneding champion team in what promises to a very good contest between bat and ball. Ramdin in looking forward said, “The next battle is going to be a tough one against Guyana and we are looking forward to playing good cricket against them. The selectors will soon name the best team for that game and we are looking to do well against difficult opposition.”
