Red Force goes down to biggest defeat
The T&T Red Force suffered its biggest ever loss in regional First Class cricket, when they went under to the Guyana Jaguars by an innings and 217 runs on the fourth and final day of their PCL clash at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba.
Starting the day in the perilous position of 106 for 6 the T&T Red Force resisted for an hour and 45 minutes before falling for 147 all out.
The man doing the damage for Guyana was left-arm spinner Veersammy Permaul who finished with 5 for 54. The day before Keemo Paul did the early damage finishing with four wickets for 26 runs.
Responding to the Guyanese first innings effort of a mammoth 484 for eight declared, the T&T Red Force was bowled out for 120 in their first innings, with Permaul again out front and centre with 4 for 43 to finish with match figures of 9 for 97. Permaul had a marathon effort in the second innings bowling his slow left arm offerings with great variations.
The victory keeps Guyana on top of the standings while the T&T Red Force slipped to third, with Barbados moving into second spot.
The margin of defeat was T&T’s largest ever, eclipsing the 1987 record loss of an innings and 203 runs at to Barbados at the Kensington Oval in Barbados.
The T&T team will now take a break before resuming action on November 30, with a game against the Leewards at Warner Park in St Kitts.
