Footballers give back through ‘Love and Football’ event
For a second consecutive year, footballers from two of this country’s best known hot-beds of talent came together for a good cause.
The Love and Football event, put on by T&T international Sheldon Bateau with the assistance of his national team colleague Kevin Molino, was played at President’s Grounds in St Ann’s, putting players from that community and surrounding areas against counterparts from Carenage.
Supporters were asked to donate non-perishable and other items to be distributed to needy families in both communities.
What is quickly becoming a highly competitive rivalry is also growing leaps and bounds as a celebration of life and a show of appreciation, expressed through football.
“When you look around the ground, its amazing to all these people come out in their numbers and support Shelly (Sheldon Bateau). We are just happy to be part of this and hopefully it keeps growing,” said Molino, who represented the Carenage team alongside the likes of Joevin and Alvin Jones to name a few.
The Minnesota United midfielder in the MLS, like many of his colleagues, is in T&T following the end of his season. “The most important thing is us giving back,” Molino added.
The Carenage team which won last year’s inaugural event over two legs were once again on top of things, producing a 2-1 win over their opponents from St Ann’s.
