Volleyball Federation faces sanctions
The short-staffed T&T Volleyball Federation is faced with a mad scramble to have the necessary documentations in place to have the national senior men's and women's teams competes in several key international competitions or face being debarred from competing by yesterday.
This has been communicated to the T&TVF President, attorney-at-law and her three remaining executive members inclusive of Hans Manswaring (2nd Vice President), Vaughn Martin (Delegate Vice President) and General Secretary Cherisse De Silva by former President Daymian Stewart last weekend in response from Norceca as the local body seek an extension in time to complete and submit the necessary paperwork that will guarantee the country's participation at international events.
Following the January 2017 election of officers the organisation have been face with resignations. To date - Eva Nunez (treasurer), Lorraine David (assistant treasurer), Deon Hutchinson (1st Vice President), Crystal Williams-Joefield (assistant secretary), Leroy Serapio (public relations officer), board members Saleem Ali and Shushanna Marshall and Nolan Daniel, who was the Tobago representative, have all resigned their positions.
In addition, Lyndon Simmons, who replaced Serapio also resigned.
Stewart, who was in Mexico as the Technical Supervisor at the Norceca Beach Volleyball Tour Circuit opener relayed the regional organisation's position to the T&T president Selvon. He said to told Selvon, "Sorry I have to burden you all with more bad news about our sport (volleyball) locally. I'm currently in Mexico supervising the first leg of the Norceca Beach Volleyball event, as part of my duties I had to communicate with the Norceca President Cristobal Marte Hoffiz on a matter related to the tournament. He had a serious argument with our Delegate Vice President Vaughn Martin on some matters relating to the lack of work and responsibility of our volleyball federation. Mr. Marte indicated that he will sanction our federation and withdraw our indoor and beach, men's and women's teams from the Central American Caribbean (CAC) Games because we are continuously failing to comply with the rules, regulations and commitments, or continuous non-compliance."
In addition to the CAC Games (Women and Men), T&T also faces being withdrawn from competing at the Pan American Cup (Women and Men), Challengers Cup and remainder of the 2018 Norceca Beach Tour.
In reply to Stewart, the General Director of the Caribbean Zonal Volleyball Association (Cazavo) said that President Hoffiz stated that, "Norceca Regulations are very clear and specific; register national federation teams to Norceca events and not complying with the established deadlines are subject, in this case in particular, to be withdrawn from the event, in order to provide the opportunity to other national federation within the Norceca continental ranking, that are interested to participate in the Norcea events/competitions."
Steward said that if Norceca does not receive by April 19, (on Thursday) 2018, last deadline the complete documents re: the national team participation at the Challengers Cup which replaces the Grand Prix which takes place in Canada in three weekes time (passports, 0-2 forms of players registration, photos, visas, room list and the itinerary for the trip, airline tickets), in accordance with Norceca general regulations, the T&T will enter in a not good standing status and therefore will not be able to participate in future competitions/events."
Steward highlighted five senior events for men and women and several tournaments for youths from Under-18 to Under 23 that T&T will not be able to have a presence.
According to Stewart, President Marte is very hurt and upset by the lack of responsiveness of the T&TVF to very important matters and it must be noted Norceca did not discuss the FIVB Women’s World Championship schedule for Japan later this year because he believe that everything for that event in particular will be organised since it's a major event.
Stewart said that some progress has been made yesterday, but there are some simple easy stuff that remains outstanding.
“I want to be clear, President Marte wants me to support the T&TVF and its four (4) remaining executives.
However, Stewart said, "I have offered my services for months, clubs have nominated me to fill a vacancy and to date nothing. I was told that Mr Vaughn Martin allegedly does not want my help."
