Runs galore in Mangallie/Jaggessar opening
Runs were the order of the day on Saturday, as this year’s edition of the very popular Mangallie and Jaggessar Group Twenty20 (T20) tournament bowled off at Penal Rock Road in South Trinidad.
The tournament, sponsored by former national cricketer Rajendra Mangallie and businessman Videsh Jaggessar, attracted a huge crowd at the newly opened Govinda Roopnarine ground on Rock Road. Member of Parliament for Oropouche East Dr Roodal Moonilal was on hand to bowl the first ball to officially open the tournament.
As soon as the formal proceedings were over, balls started flying all over the place as Ravindra Rampersad playing for Extreme Customs slammed a belligerent hundred. His 102 took his team to 230/4 batting first against T-Birds.
Also among the runs were Krishna Narine 68 and Jadee Mohammed who notched an unbeaten 46.
Extreme Customs then clipped the wings of T-Birds and restricted them to 164/8 but not before Krishna Partap thrilled the fans. He struck a quickfire 43, while Lomas Bachan made 29 and Salman Khan made 25 not out.
