T&T boxer Michael Alexander, defeated Ryan Alston of Antigua 5-0 on points to win his bout at the Pan American Games qualifiers in Nicaragua yesterday. His win qualified him for the 2019 Pan Am Games to be held in Lima, Peru between July 26th and August 11th. Head coach of the T&T team, Reynold Cox, told Guardian Media Sports after the bout, "It was a tactical match and Michael was able to be ahead from the start. I think our game plan worked well as we forced the guy to come forward looking for the win. This is Michael's first Pan American Games so it means a lot to get there and he is a good medal hopeful. To add to his Commonwealth and CAC Games medals is going to mean a lot just ahead of the World Championships and Olympic games next year." Today, Alexander will fight Keyshawn Davis from the United States in the semi-finals.
