T&T box­er Michael Alexan­der, de­feat­ed Ryan Al­ston of An­tigua 5-0 on points to win his bout at the Pan Amer­i­can Games qual­i­fiers in Nicaragua yes­ter­day. His win qual­i­fied him for the 2019 Pan Am Games to be held in Li­ma, Pe­ru be­tween Ju­ly 26th and Au­gust 11th. Head coach of the T&T team, Reynold Cox, told Guardian Me­dia Sports af­ter the bout, "It was a tac­ti­cal match and Michael was able to be ahead from the start. I think our game plan worked well as we forced the guy to come for­ward look­ing for the win. This is Michael's first Pan Amer­i­can Games so it means a lot to get there and he is a good medal hope­ful. To add to his Com­mon­wealth and CAC Games medals is go­ing to mean a lot just ahead of the World Cham­pi­onships and Olympic games next year." To­day, Alexan­der will fight Keyshawn Davis from the Unit­ed States in the se­mi-fi­nals.
