The pair of Adalia Badroe and Shanice Cottoy secured their second straight win in the T&T Volleyball Federation (TTVF) Trinbago Beach Volleyball Tour Under-23 Division when the two-day tournament ended at Courland at the Courland Beach Sports Arena in Black Rock on Sunday.
Competing in the ten-team double-elimination tournament hosted by the TTVF, Badroe and Cottoy added to their previous triumph last month at Tyrico Bay, North Coast, Las Cuevas, when they battled past Ezrah Herbert and Daelen Liverpool in a ‘Super Set’ 21-17.
Earlier on in the main draw round-robin phase, Badroe and Cottoy won their quarterfinal against eighth-ranked Tiffany Chapman and Alika Holder 21-12, 21-4, while sixth-ranked Herbert and Liverpool edged third seeds Alix Pantin and Lily Tang 21-17, 26-24.
In the semifinals, Badroe and Cottoy powered past Under-18 champions Bianca Perkins and Chloe Thompson 21-9 and 21-13, while Herbert and Liverpool outlasted seventh-ranked Sarah Mohammed and Kyla Quinton 19-21, 21-15, and 15-9.
Herbert and Liverpool then created a major upset by defeating Badroe and Cottoy 21-15, 21-18 in the ‘Winners Bracket’ final 21-15, 21-18.
To their credit, Badroe and Cottoy dusted off that defeat and overcame Mohammed and Quinton in their losers’ draw semifinal, 21-13, 19-21, 15-9, to earn a chance at revenge versus Herbert and Liverpool.
In the championship final, Badroe and Cottoy humbled Herbert and Liverpool 21-16, 21-16 to set up a ‘Super Set’ decider, which the top-ranked duo won, 21-17, to secure the title.
