T&T’s beach vol­ley­ball pair of Fabi­an Whit­field and Daneil Williams had to set­tle for the sixth po­si­tion over­all on the third leg of the North Cen­tral Amer­i­can and Caribbean (NORCE­CA) Beach Vol­ley­ball Tour in the Cay­man Is­lands, on Sun­day.

Play­ing at the Sev­en Miles Beach in a los­er semi­fi­nal, the T&T pair de­feat­ed El Sal­vador duo Franklin Flo­res and Aman­do Guatemala in straight sets 2-0 (21-17, 21-17) in their first match of the day for the right to square off with the Amer­i­cans who de­feat­ed them in the group phase ear­ly on Sat­ur­day, for the fifth and sixth po­si­tion.

Seek­ing to avenge that match, how­ev­er, the T&T men bat­tled in the first set be­fore they even­tu­al­ly sur­ren­dered 21-11 against the pow­er­ful pair of William Kolinske and Ha­gan Smith.

There­after, the Amer­i­cans ap­peared to have got­ten the mea­sure of their coun­ter­parts and cruised to the win in the sec­ond set 21-10 for the fifth-place fin­ish over­all.

How­ev­er, the T&T men will be sat­is­fied with their fin­ish as they have shown steady progress with every tour. In the first tour, they fin­ished in 13th po­si­tion and in the sec­ond leg they were sev­enth. Now at the sixth po­si­tion, they ap­pear to be mak­ing the strides they were hop­ing for.

On Sat­ur­day in Pool B, the T&T men de­feat­ed An­guil­la’s two­some of Aiden Haz­zard and Da’Qwan Fred­er­icks 2-0 (21-8, 21-5). It en­sured they pro­gressed out of the group as the sec­ond-place team, fol­low­ing their loss to USA.
