West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo was inspired to write a new song on "Not Giving Up" during this critical time in T&T’s history which is challenged by coronavirus - COVID-19 pandemic.
"The inspiration comes from watching what's going on around the world," said Bravo while speaking with host Andre Errol Baptiste on Isports programme on Thursday on i95.5fm.
"It's at a standstill when you see so many people lose their lives whether is elderly or kids can get this virus. Airports are shut down people losing their jobs, it's just a sad state and I think despite what's going on, you always have to, for me, look at the brighter side in life. I always try to uplift the people around me. I try to be a voice for people to feel happy to know we will get through this at some point in time.
“A lot of credit must be given to a young lady by the name of Jojo, she is a songwriter. I told her my ideas and she came up with the hook line 'We Not Giving Up' . and we sat in the studio together and spent three days to write this. We wanted to make sure it had meaning behind it, something really powerful that when someone listens to it if you're feeling down at least you know if all of us put our heads together and fight this battle we are going to overcome it.
"It's hard because at the end of the day this is all we know, we go out there we compete, this is our life and sports around the world is shut down. It's a really serious thing when you know sports can't play at this moment. A lot of people tried keeping their tournament behind closed doors and they realized, even that is not possible."
Bravo has always been known to be at the forefront of events in this country and he spoke on the postponed Indian Premier League (IPL) season as well.
"Airports are shut down around the world and a lot of people are stranded in various countries. No one ever expected something like this, it's so drastic. To happen so quickly, it started to spread so fast and the entire world is in a panic and no one knows how you get it if you get it, so it's just a sad. The first option was to try and start the tournament on April 16. That's one option I think they have six different options to try. Shorten the tournament, if plan A doesn't work they go to plan B. Plan C at the moment I think everyone is just monitoring their situation and seeing what the next step a lot of people can plan but no one knows when the coronavirus will decide to go. We just have to hold firm and keep fighting,” said Bravo, the father of two, is considered to be the most in-demand T20 player in the world.
