The news that all-rounder Dwayne Bravo will make himself available for T20 selection on the West Indies next year has been met with approval by T&T Cricket Board president Azim Bassarath and former West Indies manager Omar Khan.
Bravo yesterday announced that he would make himself available for T20 matches next year and with the West Indies due to defend their ICC World T20 title in Australia next September, he could find himself playing under his good friend Kieron Pollard, the current West Indies captain.
Speaking about Bravo’s latest decision, Bassarath said: “This is good news for West Indies cricket as Bravo has proven to be a world-class T20 player. When Ricky Skerritt took over the leadership of Cricket West Indies, he vowed to meet with players to find out their issues because he wanted the best talent available. Obviously, he met with Bravo and was able to work out a situation where the all-rounder feels comfortable wearing the maroon again.”
He added, “It is up to the regional selectors to pick him but the first step is that he has made himself available and this is good news for our cricket. We need to successfully defend that title and all those who think they can make a contribution are welcome to make themselves available. I applaud Bravo for this move.”
Former Windies manager Khan was also in agreement with Bravo coming back.
“We all know what Bravo brings to the table and this is good for the team. He has loads of experience and will bring that to the team setting. He and skipper Pollard enjoy a good relationship and having a man like Bravo on your team is always a plus,” Khan said.
“I have managed him in the past and one thing I can tell you is that he gives 100 per cent when he goes out there and this is what you need on that West Indies team at the moment. I wish him all the best and I know he will be a great addition to the team once given the opportunity to come back.”
