Julia Britto found her rhythm early to get Jabloteh past Las Lomas, 34-27, in the Retro Division of the Courts All Sectors Netball League (ASNL) at the Eastern Regional Indoor Sports Arena in Tacarigua on Monday evening.
The goal-shooter produced 33 goals from 44 attempts which pushed Jabloteh ahead from the first pass despite a good early challenge from Las Lomas. In a tight opening quarter, Jabloteh held a narrow one-goal (9-8) lead, pushing further out front 20-13 at the half-way mark.
Not much changed in the third quarter for Las Lomas, who had goal-shooter Lavaughn O'Neil (13/27) and goal-attack Michelle Hutchins (14/26) operating in the circle, as they only managed to add five to their total compared to Jabloteh's nine, to trail by 11 (29-18).
However, Las Lomas made a run in the fourth and final period and outscored its opponent, 9-5 but it was not enough to catch the eventual winner Jabloteh which rebounded from its opening 27-23 loss to Police Y team last week.
Earlier, the defending champion Police X also bounced back from its 38-20 defeat to Las Lomas in its opener, beating TSTT (37-16) thanks to the shooting of goal-attack Donna Charles, who slotted in 28 from 34 tries.
On the other end, goal-shooter Denise Rose was best for the losing side with 10 in 17 after trailing at the end of each quarter 10-4, 18-8 and 25-14, respectively.
In the lone Alternative Division match, Police X beat the University of Southern Caribbean (USC), 10-6. USC will be back on the court tomorrow hoping to rebound from the low-scoring loss when it faces off against the University of the West Indies in the first match at 5.30 pm.
