USA's Jon­nathan Brown of the Mi­a­mi Blaz­ers drew first blood when the To­ba­go In­ter­na­tion­al Cy­cling Clas­sic ped­alled off on Thurs­day with the Di­vi­sion 1 Stage 1 race for in­ter­na­tion­al rid­ers in the sis­ter isle.

In the 20 kilo­me­tres five-lap race which took the rid­ers from Grange Bay/Mt Irvine, then to Auchenskeoch Buc­coo Bay Road, across Or­ange Hill Road, Mount Marie, Ply­mouth, and Shir­van for the fin­ish, saw a to­tal dom­i­na­tion by the Amer­i­can rid­er, who even­tu­al­ly crossed the fin­ish line in two hours, 30 min­utes and 19.30 sec­onds for the win.

He fin­ished nar­row­ly ahead of even­tu­al sec­ond-place fin­ish­er Mex­i­can Ed­er Frayre of the Le­gion of Los An­ge­les in Mex­i­co, who se­cured the sil­ver medal in two hours, 30 min­utes and 19.58 sec­onds as one of the Elite 1 rid­ers.

An­oth­er Amer­i­can, Musum Bri­an, of Team Phar­ma­co/JLD stormed home for the third spot af­ter post­ing a time of 2:33.09.54.

T&T's top rid­er was vet­er­an Emile Abra­ham, who at the age of 49, still bat­tling for the red, white and black crossed sixth in a time of two hours, 33 min­utes and 52.92 sec­onds, al­so rid­ing for Team Phar­ma­co/JLD.

Liam Trepte, the ris­ing T&T tal­ent, fin­ished a cred­itable 10th place for his Raiders club that came af­ter two hours, 36 min­utes and 11.81 sec­onds.

Thir­ty-six rid­ers con­test­ed the race with 14 of them fail­ing to fin­ish.

The event con­tin­ues on Fri­day with Race 2 - for Di­vi­sion 1 in­ter­na­tion­al, Di­vi­sion 2 Open, and Di­vi­sion 3 for ca­su­al rid­ers be­tween 8 am and 11 am from Farm Road, Shaw Park Scar­bor­ough.
