USA's Jonnathan Brown of the Miami Blazers drew first blood when the Tobago International Cycling Classic pedalled off on Thursday with the Division 1 Stage 1 race for international riders in the sister isle.
In the 20 kilometres five-lap race which took the riders from Grange Bay/Mt Irvine, then to Auchenskeoch Buccoo Bay Road, across Orange Hill Road, Mount Marie, Plymouth, and Shirvan for the finish, saw a total domination by the American rider, who eventually crossed the finish line in two hours, 30 minutes and 19.30 seconds for the win.
He finished narrowly ahead of eventual second-place finisher Mexican Eder Frayre of the Legion of Los Angeles in Mexico, who secured the silver medal in two hours, 30 minutes and 19.58 seconds as one of the Elite 1 riders.
Another American, Musum Brian, of Team Pharmaco/JLD stormed home for the third spot after posting a time of 2:33.09.54.
T&T's top rider was veteran Emile Abraham, who at the age of 49, still battling for the red, white and black crossed sixth in a time of two hours, 33 minutes and 52.92 seconds, also riding for Team Pharmaco/JLD.
Liam Trepte, the rising T&T talent, finished a creditable 10th place for his Raiders club that came after two hours, 36 minutes and 11.81 seconds.
Thirty-six riders contested the race with 14 of them failing to finish.
The event continues on Friday with Race 2 - for Division 1 international, Division 2 Open, and Division 3 for casual riders between 8 am and 11 am from Farm Road, Shaw Park Scarborough.
