T&T’s Ak­il Camp­bell won three of the four men’s Om­ni­um events and placed third in the oth­er, to be crowned the over­all win­ner of the Om­ni­um when the Team Dri­ve Phase Sports (Team DPS) Car­ni­val of Speed sanc­tioned by the T&T Cy­cling Fed­er­a­tion ped­alled off at the Na­tion­al Cy­cling Cen­tre in Bal­main, Cou­va on Sat­ur­day.

The win­ner of the same event when Team DPS staged the two-day “Speed Par­adise” at the same venue, Camp­bell, who re­cent­ly com­pet­ed at the UCI Na­tions Cup in Mil­ton, Cana­da but failed to medal, picked up where he left off on lo­cal soil with vic­to­ry in the Car­ni­val of Speed Men’s Elite Tem­po Race, Elim­i­na­tion Race, and Points Race while he had to set­tle for the third spot in the Scratch Race be­hind USA’s Daniel Breuer, and Bar­ba­di­an Jamol East­mond.

The 27-year-old San Fer­nan­do-born Camp­bell won the Car­ni­val of Speed Men’s Elite Om­ni­um Tem­po Race (10k) with a tal­ly of 40 points to beat Breuer (38) and Bar­ba­di­an Ed­win Suther­land (36) in­to sec­ond and third, re­spec­tive­ly, while Stu­art Gard­ner of Great Britain was fourth with 34, and East­mond, two points back in the fifth spot.

Camp­bell al­so nar­row­ly won the Elim­i­na­tion Race with 40 points, just ahead of East­mond (38) and Breuer (36) while T&T’s Liam Trepte was a cred­itable fourth with 34, close­ly fol­lowed by Suther­land, two points back.

How­ev­er, in the 25k Men’s Elite Om­ni­um Points Race, Camp­bell saved his best per­for­mance for last on the night as he rode away with first place with 176 points, well ahead of East­mond (160) and Breuer (149) with Suther­land (138) and Gard­ner (93), a dis­tant fourth and fifth-placed, re­spec­tive­ly.

Ear­li­er on the night in the Scratch Race (10k), Breuer won gold with 40 points fol­lowed by East­mond (38), and Camp­bell, with 36. The sec­ond and fi­nal day of the event took place on Sun­day.
