Swimmer Dylan Carter splashed to the bronze medal in the final of the men’s 50-metre backstroke event, on day two of the 2025 World Aquatics Swimming World Cup in Carmel, Indiana, United States, on Saturday (October 11).
It was the perfect comeback from the missed chance in the 50-metre freestyle final a day ago, in which he placed a disappointing fourth.
Carter entered the pool in lane four, but made immediate strides from a 0.52 reaction time, which proved to be the fastest on the night, before he touched the wall in a time of 23.00 seconds. The result earned him 888 points as he turned his focus on the 50-metre butterfly Sunday (October 12), starting with the heats this morning.
The race was won by Hungary’s Hubert Kos, who, despite a reaction time of 0.56, was quick to the finish for the gold medal in 22.65 seconds. Ralf Tribuntsov of Estonia secured the runner-up silver medal in 22.91 seconds.
Earlier, Carter splashed to the final from heat three, claiming the top spot in a time of 22.92 seconds, which followed as a reaction time of 0.52. The lanky T&T swimmer also benefited from a total of 897 points for his achievement.
Carter, who competed at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in the 100m freestyle, as well as at the FINA Short Course World Championships, where he made the final in the 200m freestyle and finished fourth, was one of just two swimmers to have qualified out of the heat.
His close rival and competitor, Jack Alexy of the United States, claimed the other qualifying berth by finishing in the second position in 23.52 seconds. His finish followed a reaction time of 0.60, which also earned him 830 points.
Meanwhile, Lorenzo Mora sealed the third-place spot for Italy as he splashed to a time of 23.82 seconds, but it was not enough to book him a place in the final. Australia’s Enoch Robb also missed out on a final spot with his time of 23.93 seconds.
