Central Sports made an excellent start to the 2019 Premiership competition when they easily took first innings over newcomers EYM at Felicity yesterday.
Barbadians Akeem Jordan 3/26 and Ryan Austin 3/26 bowled out EYM for 122 and in response, the Central team gathered 293 runs. Leading the way was Windwards Islands player Keddy Lesporis with 71, while the inform Vishan Jaggessar got 59 and Jesse Bootan 49. The game enters its second and final day today.
Down South, PowerGen had Queen's Park in problems in a low scoring encounter. QPCC batted first and made 124 all out with Isaiah Rajah top scoring with 38. Spinner Ancil Bhaggan was excellent with 5/41, while Kavesh Kantasingh plucked 4/46. PowerGen then got to 162 for a lead of 38 runs on first innings. Jerron Maniram had the best score of 51. Spinner Akeal Hosein grabbed five and Vishan Jaggessar snared 5/66. Batting a second time the Parkites ended on 22/3 - still 16 runs in the red with three wickets down.
Across at Wilson Road, Clarke Road held the upper hand against Merryboys. Both teams witnessed a minute's silence in memory of the fallen Merryboys president Patrick Rampersad. Merryboys batting first made 169 all out with Mario Belcon hitting a quick 80. St. Lucien Dalton Polius started his season well with 7/55. At the close Clarke Road was responding strongly on 171/1 with Sean Siloch hitting the first century of the season, getting an unbeaten 101.
Clarke Road as part of their youth development policy, handed caps to national under-17 player Tariq Mohammed and national under-19 player Justyn Gangoo.
At Pierre Road, Rayad Emrit stole the show, as he grabbed 4/22, to hustle out Victory of 138. Comets closed on 186/9 with Jyd Goolie undefeated on 68. Roshon Primus made 41 and Emrit contributed 19.
