The eight cat­e­go­ry (class) win­ners of the T&T Power­boat As­so­ci­a­tion's first re­gat­ta on Feb­ru­ary 9 will again line up on Sun­day in an at­tempt to keep their ad­van­tage in the sec­ond re­gat­ta at Cast­er's Cove, Ch­aguara­mas.

It was the first of five re­gat­tas, which usu­al­ly cul­mi­nate with the T&T In­ter­na­tion­al Great Race from Trinidad to the sis­ter isle of To­ba­go in Ju­ly/Au­gust each year.

Mr So­lo Too, the much-fan­cied 130 miles per hour (mph) Class pow­er mon­ster which claimed the top spot in its class at last year's in­ter­na­tion­al Great Race, was a no-show on Feb­ru­ary 9. How­ev­er, Tyrant, the win­ner of the 95 mph class, fea­tured promi­nent­ly when the for­mer power­boat as­so­ci­a­tion pres­i­dent Jonathan Tardieu led a crew that guid­ed the boat past the fin­ish line first.

New pres­i­dent of the power­boat as­so­ci­a­tion Ste­fan Scott-Lewis was thrilled at his first event since be­ing elect­ed at the helm of the or­gan­i­sa­tion, say­ing the event was a huge suc­cess which he hopes to car­ry on to the sec­ond re­gat­ta.

In ad­di­tion to Mr So­lo Too, some of the oth­er big boats such as Iron Man in the 120 mph class did not make an ap­pear­ance ei­ther. Mean­while, Heat­wave, who dom­i­nat­ed the 80 mph di­vi­sion made its pres­ence felt by claim­ing the top spot in its cat­e­go­ry be­ing the lone en­trant, while in the 60 mph class which fea­tured three com­peti­tors, saw Krak­en take the win­ner's spot ahead of KISM in sec­ond and John Wink in third.

At the Great Race, Krak­en led by the crew of Gary John­son and Jacques Gomes proved to be a cut above by pro­duc­ing a blaz­ing per­for­mance that saw them touch down on the sis­ter isle in one hour, 40 min­utes and 39 sec­onds.

With the per­for­mance, they en­tered the win­ner's row ahead of Pan­dem­ic in sec­ond (Justin Wort­man/Robert Lobo)—1:41.21, third Ska­pade (An­drew Sa Gomes/Alex Jod­han)—1:41.22, fourth ASalt Weapon (Nicholas Lee/An­tho­ny Scott)—1:41.57, fifth Bal­lis­tic (Nicholas Balaldin/Mark Gill)—1:42.28, and sixth Ar­row (Scott Knag­gs/Ja­son Re­ece) who fin­ished in one hour, 46 min­utes and 37 sec­onds.
