Dernelle Mascall and Rene Mike scored two goals each as reigning T&T Women’s League Football (WoLF) champions Tiger Tanks Club Sando slammed Play Fit Aacademy 6-0 in their Conference Cup knockout encounter on Sunday (June 9).
Playing at the St James Police Barracks Ken Cooke Ground, Long Circular Road, St James, Port-of-Spain, Club Sando wasted little time in finding the opener through veteran former national player Mascall in the fifth minute before Mike made it 2-0 in the 25th followed by Mascall's second item in the 39th for a 3-0 half-time cushion.
On the hour mark, Mike also got her second to extend Club Sando's margin to a 4-0 lead before Javannah Moreno got her first of the afternoon three minutes later for a 5-0 advantage.
National defender Chelcy Ralph added her name to the scoresheet with the final kick of the match three minutes into time added on for Club Sando to shoot to the top of the three-team Group One standings while the second match on the afternoon between host Police FC and AIA in Group Two at the same venue was not played.
Over in Tobago at Mt Gomery Recreation Ground, Tobago Chicas and Black Panthers got contrasting wins in their Group Three match-ups.
In the opener, Tobago Chicas got second-half goals from Neicha Hercules in the 48th minute and Shivell Williams ten minutes to secure a come-from-behind win over Jewels who led early on via an 11th minute strike fom Ty'Kaiya Dennis.
And in the second match, Black Panthers blanked Combined Ballerz 2-0 with a goal each from Darrelcia Nelson, a 22nd minute penalt, and the other from Jada Graham in the 77th.
Last season, Club Sando won the Trinidad Claire George Conference as well as the four-club Inter-Island title with a 2-0 defeat of AC Port-of-Spain in the title match.
The tournament will continue on Sunday (June 16) with Club Sando hosting Queen's Park Cricket Club (QPCC) in Group One, and Police meeting Defence Force in Group Two in the two Trinidad matches while in Tobago in Group Three, Jewels tackle Black Panthers, and Combined Ballerz come up against Tobago Chicas.
In the third and final group match day, on June 23, Queen’s Park Cricket Club (QPCC) faces Play Fit in Group One; AIA faces Defence Force in Group Two, and in Group Three, Jewels battle Combined Ballerz with Tobago Chicas meeting Black Panthers.
At the end of the round-robin phase, the best runner-up from Group One/Group Two faces the runner-up of Group Three for a spot in the semifinals on June 30, versus the Group Two winner, while Group One winner meets Group Three winner in the other final-four encounter for places in the final.
