National shooters Joelisa Cooper and Tahirah Hollingsworth combined well to help Police Youth Club (PYC) take revenge on Fire Services to emerge the Courts All Sectors Netball League Open Knockout champion on Saturday.
Playing at the Eastern Regional Indoor Sports Arena in Tacarigua, PYC came away with a 23-16 victory over the firewomen, who last weekend beat PYC, 36-30 when the teams met for the first time this season in the Premiership Division league competition.
Cooper, the goal-shooter, was her accurate self in the circle, leading with 16 goals from 19 attempts in the 15-minute-a-half match while her goal-attack Tahirah Hollingsworth poured in the other seven goals from nine tries for Police, which eliminated Defence Force 24-13 to get into the final before stopping Fire.
"I feel absolutely thrilled about winning the title and to do so convincingly," said Cooper. "Of course playing Fire, I think will always be one of the toughest competition but we also have a group of very talented players and I knew we could've done it. The main goal was to always take care of the ball and secure our goals and we did just that."
On defence for PYC were two national players goal-keeper Shaquanda Greene and goal-defence Kielle Connelly, who did a good job in limiting Fire's chances at goal.
Former national shooter Simone Morgan, the goal-attack, produced the bulk of goals for her Fire team, netting 12 from 20 in a losing effort. Her goal-attack Jellene Richardson scored four in five.
The firewomen had topped Las Lomas, 24-9 in the semifinals to reach the title match but unfortunately went down by seven goals.
