There was no holding back Cougars Athletics Club as it obliterated the competition at the National Association of Athletic Administrations (NAAA) Relay Festival held on Sunday at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Mucurapo.
Cougars won 20 of the 33 events to tally a combined team score of 494 points at the meet, which saw 19 clubs battling for top honours. Second was Memphis Pioneers with 430 and third was Simplex (358). Abilene Wildcats (288) and Point Fortin New Jets (PFNJ) with 158, filled the other two spots, respectively. Clubs earned 20 points for a first place finish, 16 for second spot, 12 for third, 10 for fourth 10 and eight for fifth place.
The quartet of Kayanna Thornhill, Shannon Joseph, Alissa Mathais and J'Nae Bertete, running in that order, opened Cougar's domination in the Girls Under-9 4x50 metres contest, winning in 33.48 seconds. Simplex's Niela Johnson, Leah Archibald, Precious Holford and Akilah Chinapoo (35.07) crossed second with Kayla Fitzpatrick, Daynielle Guy, Karrah John and Sade Martineaux of Memphis Pioneers (36.16) in third.
Cougars boy's team of Jahmichael Waldron, Jabez George-Arnaud, Sean Hart and Jaiden Edwards followed up with a win in the boys' version of the race in 31.86. Second was Memphis foursome of Adon Christopher, Zayne Martin, Tannon Niemeyer and Aydan Davidson in 32.92 and third, Simplex (Mikail Mahabir, Donelle Ramnarine, Mikhail Malaver, Aiden Lancaster) in 34.35.
Cougars went on to win the both the boys' and girls' 4x100m races in the U-9, U-11, U-13 and U-15 age-groups and also in the boys U-17 4x100m, with the girls'team in this category placing third.
The Kelvin Nancoo-coached Cougars was also superb in their baton-passing technique in the 4x200m relay events, winning the the boys' U-20 race but did not field a girls' team, then moments later won both U-15 divisions while the boys U-17 team placed second and its girls' team, fourth.
In the women's 4x200m race, Cougars was fifth. Winning was Simplex's Nyoshia Cain, Kamaria Durant, Shikyla Walcott and Taelonne Walker in 1:40.33 with Abilene (Rochelle Lewis, Shun-Shauna Mason, Tia Honore, Jale Fergusson) second in 1:43.29 and third, Memphis (J'Da Browne, Shania Mc Carter, Caitlan Ragoonanan, Deleth Charles) in 1:43.82
In the 4x400m, both Cougars boys and girls team were the winners in among the U-15s and the boys unit in the U-17 age-group.
Cougars then totally dominated the 800 Sprint Medley (100m/100m/200m/400m) winning both divisions in the U-13 and U-11 age-groups.
