The game of cricket has been placed at a standstill by the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic which has been wreaking havoc around the globe.
Here in T&T, life has been upended as the government grapples with the social and economic challenges posed by COVID-19 which has so far claimed eight lives locally.
The lockdown measures instituted have also exerted severe hardship on a major sector of the population but relief has been offered by the state, religious and civic society organisations, charitable institutions, and individuals. To date, T&T has recorded 116 positive tests from 2,320 samples with eight deaths and 107 persons discharged.
Chairman of the North East Zonal Council of the T&T Cricket Board (TTCB), Parasram Singh, recently launched a commendable effort to distribute food hampers to deserving people who he said were recommended by member clubs of the zone.
"We are all aware of the hardship faced by many people in the society which the COVID-19 has brought upon us and I felt it was the right thing to do to make an input and provide some assistance through the distribution of food hampers as chairman of the North East Zone," said Singh who was deeply appreciative of the contribution made to his effort by responsible members of the Sangre Grande community including SAP Electrical, Nairoon Sooknanan, Debbie Katwaroo, Richard Singh, and Anjie Ganga,
Singh is also third vice-president of the TTCB, immediate past president of the T&T Umpires Council, and vice-chairman of the TTCB's National League competition.
He said that he will continue to reach out to the zonal council's clubs to identify recipients in their respective communities as his hamper distribution drive continues.
