Brit­tney Coop­er hit an un­beat­en 49 runs against Guyana yes­ter­day as T&T start­ed their 2009 West In­dies Se­nior Women's Crick­et Tour­na­ment with a win against the host team. Opt­ing to bat first, Guyana post­ed 160 for sev­en in their al­lot­ted 50 overs, with June Thomas and Da­vanie Gale con­tribut­ing 35 and 33 re­spec­tive­ly.

Bowl­ing for T&T, the usu­al­ly pro­lif­ic pair of Sta­cy-Ann King and Anisa Mo­hammed did most of the dam­age with fig­ures of 2-33 and 2-20 re­spec­tive­ly. T&T went about their re­ply in a some­what un­ortho­dox man­ner, open­ing with Coop­er and un­der-17 play­er and se­nior team reg­u­lar Aman­da Sama­roo rather than usu­al open­er De­vi­ka Singh.

The pair post­ed 61 be­fore Sama­roo was bowled for 29. Coop­er then went on to make 49 with no­table sup­port from Shar­da Sa­roop who con­tributed 15. T&T even­tu­al­ly got to their tar­get in 46 overs.

T&T will next face Grena­da on Wednes­day, while Ja­maica play St Lu­cia and Bar­ba­dos take on Do­mini­ca to­day.
