Brittney Cooper hit an unbeaten 49 runs against Guyana yesterday as T&T started their 2009 West Indies Senior Women's Cricket Tournament with a win against the host team. Opting to bat first, Guyana posted 160 for seven in their allotted 50 overs, with June Thomas and Davanie Gale contributing 35 and 33 respectively.
Bowling for T&T, the usually prolific pair of Stacy-Ann King and Anisa Mohammed did most of the damage with figures of 2-33 and 2-20 respectively. T&T went about their reply in a somewhat unorthodox manner, opening with Cooper and under-17 player and senior team regular Amanda Samaroo rather than usual opener Devika Singh.
The pair posted 61 before Samaroo was bowled for 29. Cooper then went on to make 49 with notable support from Sharda Saroop who contributed 15. T&T eventually got to their target in 46 overs.
T&T will next face Grenada on Wednesday, while Jamaica play St Lucia and Barbados take on Dominica today.
